This thread has some extra information important for people who would like to play professors or professor's assistants.
Requirements
To play a professor, you must be active enough to grade student homework within one week of posting. If you're going to be away for a vacation, just let a staff member know and someone can substitute for you.
You must have good spelling and grammar and be able to write clearly.
You must be willing to write homework prompts and post them on time. These posts should be interesting, informative, and stick to major canon laid out by the Harry Potter books, although you are certainly allowed to be creative and make up plenty of background information for your lessons.

Homework
A complete class should have five lessons per term for each year, 1st-7th. Upon being accepted as a professor, you should be prepared to post one homework prompt for each year during the next homework month. For instance, if you become a professor in October, please have prompts ready for the November class. If you need help getting these done, contact Headmaster Corvidire.
Homework Schedule:
September
November
January
April
June (Final Exam)
Each homework prompt will stay open for two months, until the next one opens. So September's homework will open on September 1st, and stay open until October 31st. The next day, November's homework will be posted.
You can reuse the same lessons each term. Since each year will have their own prompt, students will be getting something new from your class every year. Feel free to rework or replace as you wish, but fortunately it's not necessary.
Lesson Format
There is some discretion on how you want to conduct your class. You can include all the lessons for a homework prompt in one post, as in Care of Magical Creatures, or you can split them up by year and month, as in Potions.
Each lesson should have some scene-setting, with the professor teaching the class and laying out the requirements of the lesson. You should also include any external links they might need for more information, such as to Pottermore or the Harry Potter wikipedia, and you should let students know what format you expect in a response. See the Hogwarts Student Handbook for an explanation of the lesson formats.
Grading
You're responsible for grading student's responses to your homework threads. If you have a professor's assistant, you two can share the duties however you like: whoever gets to it first, each of you grades particular years, etc.
Grade homework based in part on the quality of the member's response, since we do want to reward good writing. It's also based in part on whether or not their character got the right answers or performed well in class, since we do also want to afford some realism to grades. Each assignment should be graded out of 10 points.
You can notify students of grades however you like, either by PMing them or posting them in the thread. In CoMC, grades are posted in one response right before the next homework opens.
Since grades translate into house points, please also post in the Hogwarts Information thread when you grade something, so I can update the house points totals.
Professor's Assistants
Professor's assistants must be at least 17 and in their 7th year. Graduated students can also become assistants, but are typically no more than 20-21 years old. They must have excelled in the subject they wish to assist.
You can apply as a professor's assistant in your character application, and upon acceptance you have received the job. Get in touch with the professor and talk about what they'd like you to do. They can have you help them grade, or have you write your character into a couple of lessons and perhaps even lead one yourself.
Help
Being a professor can be a big commitment! To make it easier, professors have access to a professors- and assistants-only forum where you can post to ask for help or inspiration finishing lesson prompts, collaborate with other teachers to have one of them co-teach one class with you, etc.

Personal Conduct
These are in-character rules only, which means you don't strictly have to follow them-- but there could be serious professional consequences for teachers who do not follow them.
1. No dueling, smoking or excessive drinking or swearing in the presence of students. Professors are role models for their students and should behave as such.
2. Use discretion in your lesson topics; there is danger inherent in the use of magic but ensure it is age-appropriate and you have taken the required safety precautions to prevent permanent injuries or death.
3. The Headmaster must be informed of any romantic relationships between professors, and both parties should maintain professional boundaries in the presence of students.
