This afternoon, the third year students walked into the dungeon classroom to see an acid green potion on display in a cauldron at the front of the class. The Potions Master stood there, bright red hair clipped back out of the way, as she was quite obviously working on the potion in front of her. Before they took their seats she invited the students to come up and get a closer look. As they all crowded around the cauldron, the professor began describing what exactly it was they were looking at.
"This is a Shrinking Solution; it is a rather underrated potion that causes creatures to shrink to a younger form. It is bright green when brewed correctly, but if prepared incorrectly it can be poisonous. One practical example of use of this potion is in the transportation of livestock — it has allowed for witches and wizards to carry an entire herd of pigs in their pocket. There are a couple different recipes that have been discovered to have the same effect, and all can be classified as a shrinking solution. Some methods are more complicated than others, and although the basis is the same some use a couple different ingredients.” The professor then dismissed the students to their seats for the rest of class.
"You will be researching the different ways to make a Shrinking Solution. You will also be learning about the history of this useful potion, and then writing me a solid essay including everything you’ve learned." She heard the groans as they filled the classroom, the students always disappointed when they had to do book work instead of brewing, but sometimes they had to understand the etiology of a potion before they could ever hope to make it.
"The original potion was invented by Zygmunt Budge. Common ingredients for any shrinking solution include minced daisy roots, peeled Shrivelfig, sliced caterpillars, one rat spleen, a dash of leech juice, a splash of cowbane, and wormwood. The rest, I will allow you to research on your own. Trust me, there are some wonderful and funny stories out there, so hopefully it won’t be too torturous. You have the rest of class to work on your essays; if you finish before class is over, feel free to leave it on my desk.”
The students immediately started to pull textbooks and parchment out of their bags. The classroom was filled with the sounds of quills on parchment. Some students wanting to finish their essays so as to not have homework outside class, whereas others waited until they could go to the library to get even more information on the topic.
ooc:// For essay assignments such as this, please PM me a short essay (approx. 3 decently sized paragraphs) on Shrinking Solutions. I will PM you back your grade in return. You may still post here if you wish to RP the class.
