The Potions Master had laid out the necessary ingredients for her 4th years, who were mostly excited to find their stations ready for potion brewing immediately upon their arrival. Without needing to be told they set up their cauldrons. The professor waited until the classroom had filled, and then turned her wheeled chalkboard around to reveal the words written on it: ’Today’s Assignment: Wit-Sharpening Potion’. The sound of pages rustling was then heard as students took out their textbooks, using the index to flip to the correct recipe page.
The potion was of moderate difficulty, something she expected most (but potentially not all) of her students would be able to brew.
“The Wit-Sharpening Potion is a potion which allows the drinker to think more clearly. Due to this, it acts as a counteragent to the Confundus Charm. This is one of my favorite potions to brew, not because of its effects, but solely due to the color changing process that occurs during its creation. You will notice that the recipe in your textbook does not give exact amounts for the ingredients used – instead, it tells you to add as much of the ingredient as necessary until the potion turns a certain color. After every ingredient is added, the potion should change to a different color. This is how you can tell you are on the right track, but it also requires diligence; the color may change a couple times as you add ingredients and stir. It is important to make sure that the liquid is the correct color, and shade, before moving on to the next ingredient. The thing that makes this potion difficult is the amount and timing of adding ingredients, therefore, it is one that will require your full attention. As with any potion like this, it may take practice, and I don’t expect everyone to get it correct the first time. Despite how easy it may seem, it is as simple as adding an ingredient too early to mess the whole thing up.”
“There are only three ingredients total needed to make a Wit-Sharpening Potion: scarab beetles, ginger root, and armadillo bile. You will be alternating adding these ingredients according to your textbook. I have already laid them out up here on the front table for you to grab as needed; since there are no exact measurements when it comes to this potion you may find yourself having to come back up to the front to grab more of something. I have not, however, prepped them. So, remember to ground your scarab beetles and cut your ginger root. This is an individual assignment, so you will each be brewing on your own; a true test of your Potion Making abilities.” The Potions Master watched the reactions of her students – most were unfazed by the idea of brewing independently, some seemed relieved that they did not have to collaborate with other students, and a couple shifted their eyes around nervously. This was one of her favorite classes of the term. Before starting, however, there was one more piece to the puzzle that she had to add.
“When you are finished with your potion please raise your hand to call me over to your station. You will be testing your creation on yourselves. I will perform the Confundus Charm, and if you have correctly brewed a Wit-Sharpening Potion, drinking it should counteract the effects and return you to your normal state. Not to worry, for if somehow you have not brewed it correctly, it has no adverse side effects and I have vials of a properly brewed Wit-Sharpening Potion at the ready to administer to you. Let’s get started!”
Ooc:// This class, you will be using a random dice roller to determine the success of your Wit-Sharpening Potion! Simply click the link below and roll the dice to get a number between 1 and 6! Results will be:
1-3 = Unsuccessful brew; somewhere, somehow, an ingredient was added incorrectly or mistimed and your potion does not counteract the effects of the Confundus Charm. Professor Brown administers her own concoction to you so that you return to a normal state.
4-6 = Successful brew; everything was done correctly and the effects of the Confundus Charm are counteracted after drinking your own potion. You return to a normal state.
You will make your reply post accordingly.
