Name: Kamin Corvidire
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Occupation: Headmaster of Hogwarts and Care of Magical Creatures Professor
Residence: During the year, he stays at Hogwarts. For part of the summer and during occasional holiday weekends, he stays at a small flat above a closed business in Diagon Alley.
Appearance: Kamin is not a particularly tall man (5'8" or so) but with his impeccable posture and frequently serious expression he still cuts an imposing figure. He has dark hair, sprinkled with a few recent strands of silver at his temples, and pale gray-green eyes. Having grown up in a wealthy wizarding family, he pays careful attention to how he presents himself. His clothes are well-made and expertly tailored, and he tends to favor black, gray, and muted shades of green.
Personality: Nobody would call Kamin a kind or welcoming man, but nor would they call him a cruel or unfair one- or at least, he works hard to make that be the case. He gives all of his effort and attention to any task he has chosen to take on, and is never one to leave a job incomplete. Currently, he is devoting all his considerable energy to learning everything he can about Hogwarts, especially its staff and students. Although he's not exactly a social butterfly, Kamin is far from an introvert. He spends a lot of time around people, and views them as interesting puzzles to understand and, potentially, to influence. This is a bit of a deep-seated Slytherin habit, but he tries to check his impulse to manipulate. Having seen what happens when people disregard the humanity of those they consider inferior or unimportant, Kamin cultivated a deep respect for life. Even when he dislikes someone, Kamin is usually able to approach his interactions with them objectively. This is fortunate, because it takes Kamin a long time to decide if he likes someone, and it's often difficult to tell even if he decides he does like them.
He carries an acute feeling of shame from his behavior during his years at Hogwarts, from his cruel treatment of non-Slytherins, his half-hearted support of the Dark Lord, and finally his cowardice in the Battle of Hogwarts. It is not something he actively dwells on, but much of what he does and how he acts is meant to atone for the person he was as a young man.
History: During the First and Second Wizarding Wars, the Corvidire family were active supporters of Voldemort, and they have ties to the dark arts going back much further than that. Kamin's father, Atticus, was never a Death Eater but had contact with Voldemort and supported him however he could. The Corvidire family owned an exlcusive social club in Diagon Alley, the Black Feather, and Atticus offered it up as a place for Death Eaters to hide out, meet, and pass communications to each other. Kamin was raised in the familiar pureblood bubble, looking down on anything deemed antithetical to returning the wizarding community to a state of purity and superiority over Muggles. If not for Deva Blake, Kamin may have carried on in his father's footsteps even after the war. Deva Blake was a Ravenclaw girl the same age as Kamin. Deva's parents supported the Dark Lord as well, so the two of them grew up together. In their fourth year, Kamin fell in love with Deva, despite the fact that she had begun to disagree with the views of their families shortly after their arrival in Hogwarts. For this, Deva's family ostracized her and so did most of the other pureblood students at Hogwarts, but Kamin never left her side and found himself defending her against their treatment. For several years he vacillated between holding the views he'd been raised with, and being persuaded by Deva's ideas on equality and peace. Finally, the Battle of Hogwarts came; forced to choose sides once and for all, Kamin was torn but ultimately left with the rest of the Slytherins. Deva stayed to defend the castle and when it was all over, an irreparable rift had formed between the two of them and Deva promised Kamin she would never speak to him again. In the weeks that followed the final battle, Kamin was plagued with guilt, regret, and disgust. Eventually, he realized it was because he no longer believed in the ideologies in which he'd been raised, and parted ways with his parents' mindsets once and for all. He stayed at Hogwarts long enough to graduate, although he was no longer happy there.
Immediately afterwards, Kamin left Britain and began traveling. He stayed abroad for most of the next two decades, rarely staying in one place for more than three or four years. He studied with dragonolists in Romania, taught magizoology at Castellobruxo in Brazil, and witnessed a brief coup by dark wizards in the small magical village of Vulcanov near Durmstrang. He learned as much as he could from other wizard communities around the entire world.
When Kamin was in his late 30s, his mother died. The man returned to Britain for the funeral, then lingered afterwards. At first, he told himself it was to fulfill his obligation to care for his father, but Atticus followed his wife into death less than a year later and still, Kamin couldn't bring himself to leave. At last, he decided he felt he had gained enough valuable insight and knowledge that he ought to share it where he was needed most: Hogwarts. Fortunately, Minerva McGonagall was preparing to retire, and Kamin was accepted as her replacement. He has just begun his first year as Headmaster and is doing his best to be just as capable as his predecessors.
