Energetic. Graceful. Bright.
Alanza is of medium height and build. Her eyes and her long, wavy hair are deep brown, her clear skin a rich tan color. She loves bold colors and whenever possibly dresses in robes of red, gold, or green. Often she has to corral this affinity to accessories and jewelry. She wears big earrings and long gold necklaces with polished gems, or scarves as bright as peacock feathers whenever she can get away with it. Alanza has a way of moving quickly, darting from goal to goal like she can’t wait for the next thing. This is where she got her family nickname, Hummingbird.
Personality:
Intense. Principled. Bold.
Alanza may feel out of place at Hogwarts but that hasn’t done much to put a damper on her powerful personality. She is headstrong and opinionated, with a deep conviction that there is right and wrong and lines between the choices are clear. She is fierce in defense of bullying or unfairness, perhaps even when her intervention isn’t strictly helpful or necessary. Her clear moral compass makes her kind and compassionate but, combined with her tendency not to think before she speaks, can also make her hard to be around. Also, her morals may not map perfectly onto the rules of Hogwarts. Why should an area be off limits if the only person at risk is the one who chooses to go there? She has a lot of energy and loves to explore, learn new things, and see new places. She is easily hurt but forgives easily as well. She has a soft spot for animals, younger students, and anyone she sees as being in need of help. Proud, she would like to pretend she is never in need of help herself, but the truth is she does feel vulnerable and sometimes lonely and confused as she is still getting used to life in Britain.
Being an only child whose parents doted on her, Alanza is used to getting her own way and still expects it. It had been an adjustment to come to a school much larger than Castelobruxo where she has no history and even though she's found some things to enjoy she still gets homesick a lot and resents some things about how they do things here.
She grew up speaking Portuguese and a little English her mother picked up in teaching. Alanza has had to learn the new language quickly over the summer and has been mostly successful but still sometimes loses track of words especially if she's frustrated or scared.
History:

Alanza was born in Sao Luis on the first day of summer. Her father Francisco, a Muggle-born wizard, worked for the Brazilian Ministry of Magic. Her mother Lidia, a Muggle, was a primary school teacher. Alanza grew up comfortable in both worlds, and showed enough signs of magic that she was sure to follow her father’s footsteps and go to Castelobruxo. And indeed it was so, she was invited and Alanza spent the first few years of her magical education in the jungle school happily exploring the rainforest. She spent her summers with her parents being somewhat spoiled as an only child.
In the summer after Alanza’s 14th birthday, her father was offered an opportunity to take a job in his field at the British Ministry. After some trepidation and much arguing from Alanza he accepted and the family moved to London. Alanza was sorted in private and just began her first year at Hogwarts at age 14.
